I received a forwarded email from my sister the other day that claimed that she and her husband had been scanned by some company that monitors bit torrent sites for illegal downloads. In addition to bit torrent links, there was an attached zip file that the email claimed contained all the information related to their "illegal downloads."
Below is an image from the body of the email. More than likely, the zip file won't affect Mac users. Best practices dictate "better safe than sorry" actions so delete these types of emails.
I know for a fact that they don't illegally download music, let alone know what a bit torrent site is. I told them to delete the email and to not worry about it.
Moments later, I received an email from "Hallmark" stating that I had received an ecard from someone and that the contents of the ecard were located in the attached zip file. I deleted that immediately and then my sister and her husband received the same email which they immediately deleted.
The point is this. If you receive an email with an attachment, especially a zip file, from someone that you don't know, delete it immediately. That zip file more than likely contains a virus or trojan horse or malicious code that's going to make your life miserable.
