Slated for release in June, around the same time the next generation iPhone is expected, the iPhone SDK and v2.0 of the iPhone software were announced today at a press conference and beta demonstration hosted by Apple and led by Steve Jobs.
Things are looking very promising for the next generation of software for the iPhone. Most notable is the built-in support for Microsoft Exchange servers. I'm already thinking that when Apple releases this major update, the Mail application on the iPhone will work better with an Exchange server than Entourage 2008 does.
There was also a statement by Phil Schiller of Apple's intention to help companies migrate from RIM Blackberrys to the iPhone.
The iPhone is going even more aggressively after corporate users and has RIM in its sites. The market reacted in typical fashion with Apple shares closing down $3.5599. A video stream of the event is already online that requires QuickTime on your computer.
I have friends that use Blackberrys and I've used them to look at websites. I wasn't very impressed with their performance. I don't yet own an iPhone but plan to after the next generation is released. I've looked at this site with an iPhone and it looks just the same as it does on a computer. I can't wait to buy one.
