Apple prepping for late October releases

Leopard is scheduled to be released this month.  If Apple follows tradition, Mac fans should be able to buy the new OS on October 26th, the last Friday of the month.

Rumor sites have also recently been buzzing about a sub-notebook model that utilizes a FLASH-NAND memory drive and possibly a PDA.  I'm not sure why Apple would get back into the PDA business after the failure of the Newton, but the Newton did have some interesting software written for it by 3rd party developers that was industry-specific and very useful.

Perhaps that's the advantage of having a PDA.  With all the controversy over 3rd party applications causing problems for iPhone users, releasing a PDA to run all those applications may not be such a bad idea.  Of course, the Apple PDA rumor is nothing but a rumor so don't hold your breath.

At any rate, the week of October 22nd should be an interesting one.

I still believe that buying a Mac now is a great idea since users will be able to run both the Tiger OS and the Leopard OS on their computers.  Once Leopard is released, all new computers from Apple will only be able to run Leopard.

Something to think about.
